I’m new here! What should I do?

The OKFN can only exist thanks to the hard work of volunteers who keep it going. If you are interested in getting involved:

  1. Step One Sign up on http://okfn.org/get-involved/, if you haven't already;
  2. Step Two Become a visible community member by registering here;
  3. Step Three Sign up to okfn-announce and okfn-discuss mailing lists;
  4. Step Four Sign up to other mailing lists of your interest;
  5. Step Five Join the groups that interest you on http://okfn.org/groups;
  6. Step Six Introduce yourself to the mailing lists you've signed up to.

Get involved immediately

  • Get stuck into a micro task;
  • Have a quick look at our projects. If you want to jump straight in and get involved with a project, just introduce yourself on the mailing list for that project;
  • Sign up to our announce list, for announcements and updates or our discuss list if you want to get more deeply involved.

Other ways to get involved

  • Drop in to the Tuesday Hangout. This is a great way to meet other people involved with the Open Knowledge Foundation and work collaboratively on projects and tasks;
  • Say hi to other community members on our social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter and Meetup. Details about each can be found here;
  • Suggest an idea for a new project or activity at: http://ideas.okfn.org/;
  • Add an open knowledge/data/content button to your site (if producing open material). For more information visit Open Buttons;
  • Make a donation.
