Handbook/Tasks and Todos Management
From Open Knowledge Foundation
This document covers options for managing tasks and todos.
Some projects and activities, especially more complex ones, will require some system for managing tasks and todos and how they are shared out among people involved in the activity. Note that some projects done in collaboration with others use other systems.

System
There are a variety of systems in use across the Foundation. The main ones are:
- trac: a sophisticated system for managing tasks and todos, originally designed for use in software projects
- Simple spreadsheet
- Basecamp to do lists
- github issues
Trac
Trac is a sophisticated system for managing tasks and todos, originally designed for use in software projects. Examples of use:
- http://trac.okfn.org/ - general Open Knowledge Foundation trac instance
- http://trac.ckan.org/ - CKAN project trac instance
TODO: getting a trac instance deployed for you.
Simple Spreadsheet
Suitable for simpler projects and for use for personal task management.
- Task and Todos template spreadsheet (Gdocs)
- Copy the template
- Start using it!
Basecamp todo lists
The core team use this for internal private tasks such as hiring, and some projects also use this as it can be friendlier for projects with less technical clients or collaborators.
Github Issues

Basecamp
- Note that projects with paying clients may use Basecamp rather than trac. This may also apply to activities that might need to be kept private.
