Development of Is It Open
Plan
- Rough event diagram for Python <--> Gmail backend interaction: attachment:eventdiag.png
Use Cases
1. Encounter data and use service
- I encounter some data (or reference to data) online
- It is not clear to me whether I can get it and (re)use it. In particular is it:
- Available?
- Can I get it?
- Can I use it?
- Does it have an explicit license encapsulating the above?
- I wish to clarify these matters. I could write an email or ...
- I go to the unlocking service ...
- I check that this hasn't already been dealt with/recorded either within the unlocking service or in package list on ckan
- If not: proceed to submitting request
2. Submit request
- choose letter template
- fill in details (to/from etc)
- preview
- send (email)
- Other suggestions:
- Ability to reference another thread (?)
- Add to end of request:
- Public disclaimer
- Info about service and any problems (vexatious)
- Record request in system
- Send email
3. Response to request received
- Response to request received by unlocking service
- Record response and display it
- Email submitter if have their information
- Ask them if response is definitive
- If not option of follow up
- If is: categorize response as open/not open
4. Position of publisher
This does not seem a core use-case but more about classifaction of requests
- does publisher publicly support STMpublisher position?
- does publisher make all author-submitted data available outside subscription firewall?
- does publisher allow bulk download of supplemntal data outside firewall
- does publisher allow Open re-use of supplemental data and derived works
- does publisher allow (closed acces) subscribers to extract data from "full text" using mechanical means?
- does publisher allow such data to be re-used in an open manner?
- does publisher regard author-created graphs and tables as data that fall under the ALPSP/STM position
- does publisher allow bulk download of embedded data items (graphs, tables) and their Open re-use?
